• Rabies (either annual or tri-annual)

  • DHPP (or any variation of Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus)

  • Bordetella (kennel cough)

The Coronavirus and Leptospirosis are not required but if your dog is able to receive these vaccinations, we highly recommend them. We also HIGHLY recommend the Lyme Vaccination if you have a cottage or spend any time with your dog in nature.

*If you have a puppy who has not been fully vaccinated, vaccination records and sterilisation records can be emailed to us directly from your vet upon request at the time of administration.

If you have chosen not to vaccinate your dog, you will be required to sign a liability waiver to retain bwd as your dog walking company to absolve bwd of any liability or vet costs should any illness befall your pet.

In ALL circumstances we prefer LOCKBOXES or KEYCODES.

We WILL NOT use apartment buzz codes as the primary method of entry.

  • If you cannot provide a lockbox or a keycode and live in a building with a private entrance (single family homes, townhouses, duplexes) we will need two sets of keys for the door closest to the dog's crate if they are crated. One set of keys is for a primary walker to retain, and the other set is for headquarters in case your regular walker is ill or there is an emergency. We may require making additional copies of this entry method to provide you with seamless service or if two walkers share your area. All keys copied by bwd remain your property and you may request to pick them up at any time.

  • If you cannot provide a lockbox or a keycode and live in an apartment building with multi-level security (concierge or not) where we do not need a FOB to access the elevator functionality, bwd will need one FOB (or analogous), and two apartment keys. The FOB and one apartment key is for the walker, the other apartment key is for headquarters in case your regular walker is ill. In that rare circumstance, we will use your buzz code. Although, if you can get two FOBS, that is preferable.

  • If you cannot provide a lockbox or a keycode and live in an apartment building with multi-level security (concierge or not) where we do need a FOB to access the elevator functionality, we will require two FOBS and two apartment door keys before service can begin.

*Meet & Grrreets are required before we can commit to care.*

you can Book one here.

We are transparent with our requirements.

This makes for a smooth and worry-free service.

4) If your dog is one of the breeds listed in the very discriminatory DOLA:

  • A pit bull terrier

  • A Staffordshire bull terrier

  • An American Staffordshire terrier

  • An American pit bull terrier

  • A dog that has an appearance and physical characteristics substantially similar to any of those dogs without veterinary documents saying otherwise.

We can only provide services to a Bully breed if you sign a liability waiver (a requirement from our insurance company Profur (Intact Insurance).

We prefer flat collars that are fit properly (fits like a bra or a pair of shoes). We will resize this tool if it is sized incorrectly. If your dog pulls for you on leash to sniff things or to try to greet other dogs, we recommend the locally developed, J-Walker harness to help you with that issue. With the exception of dogs that have tracheal issues, we do not use any other type of harness for behavioural reasons. We can chat about this at the Meet & Grrreet if you have any concerns.

Click here to watch a video on what the J-Walker is and how it works.

5) For safety reasons, we do NOT use extendible leashes.

6) Entry requirements:

1) Full cocktail and upkeep of vaccinations for all dogs.

Although Ottawa does not enforce the ban and we personally are against it, we must comply with provincial laws to remain insured. This likely is the case for every dog walking company in Ontario who is with Profur. If you are with another company, we recommend that you ask them specifically about this and ask to see their insurance coverage policy.

We absolutely recommend sterilising all dogs before 8 months. Yes, even large breeds.

Dogs over 8 months who are not sterilised will be the first to be moved if the schedule calls for it. These hours can vary based on your area.

Unsterilised dogs older than 8 months are also not covered under our insurance policy and you will have to sign a liability waiver to retain us as your dog walking service. All clients with puppies are required to sign this liability waiver just in case your dog is not sterilised on time. This small step guarantees continued service while you wait for your sterilisation appointment.

2) Dogs over eight months of age should be sterilised

3) If there is a break in service for 21 days or more, there is a $35 re-activation fee.
